UTES & CAB CHASSIS – LARGE
Large utes or cab-chassis have two-tonnes payload capacity and/or big-bore engines. It’s a small segment of the Australian market, but watch this space.
Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster
The Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster ute was developed and built alongside the Grenadier Station Wagon, so the double cab pick-up had the same off-road capability as its stablemate. A portal hub kit was released in mid-2025.
Ford Ranger Super Duty
The Ford Ranger Super Duty was revealed in April 2025. Although based on the medium-sized Ranger, the Super Duty has sufficient upgrades to warrant its listing in this Large Utes section of the OTA Buyers Guide.
Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series
Since the first Land Cruisers came to Australia in the 1970s, evolution, not revolution, has been the name of the game, but in 2022 the 70 Series became much more complex, adding the HiLux diesel option from mid-2024 and discontinuing the V8 in September 2024.
GMSV Silverado
The Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD LTZ Premium was upgraded for 2024 and 2025, with a refreshed look and even more grunt from its Duramax V8 turbo-diesel engine.
RAM 2500
The Ram has been Cummins-powered since 1989. It’s taken nearly 30 years to make it Down Under as RHD-converted ute, but the wait has been worth it. The latest model was released in September 2021.
Electric LandCruisers
Many industries are interested in zero-pollution electric vehicles – particularly underground mining – and the ubiquitous LandCruiser ute is an obvious candidate for electrification.
Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon Pro
The tray-back version of the G-Wagon was released in early 2017. Outback Travel Australia managed to get its hands on one of the pre-production vehicles for an exclusive report.
