BUYERS GUIDE - UTES & CAB CHASSIS LARGE
The Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster ute made its global debut at the July 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed, in the UK. Developed and built alongside the Grenadier Station Wagon, the double cab pick-up had the same off-road capability as its stablemate.
While the Grenadier Quartermaster shares most of its architecture and components with the station wagon, its rigid box-section ladder frame chassis is longer and its wheelbase is 3227mm – 305mm longer than the wagon’s 2922mm. This results in a load bay, that’s 1564mm long and 1619mm wide – large enough to carry a standard 1200mm x 800mm Euro pallet.
With a payload of 832kg, the same 3500kg towing capacity as the Grenadier station wagon and a wide range of accessories, the Grenadier Quartermaster was capable of carrying five people and typical loads. Standard were four tie-down rings and Utility Rails were optional.
Also in the tray were a 400W power supply, an integrated mounting bar and a 1280mm-wide tailgate that could support up to 225kg.
Like the station wagon, the pick-up was powered by a choice of BMW 3.0-litre turbo-charged inline six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, driving through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The two-speed transfer case had a centre differential lock and front and rear diff locks were optional ($4105).
The Grenadier Quartermaster also rode on similar heavy-duty five-link front and rear suspensions, and was fitted with Carraro live-beam axles, mounting Brembo disc brakes. The Quartermaster retained hydraulic power steering.
The Grenadier Quartermaster had 264mm ground clearance, 800mm wading depth and class-leasing approach, break-over and departure angles, Ineos claimed.
The model line-up mirrored that of the station wagon – Standard, Trailmaster and Fieldmaster trim levels. July 2023 RRPs were $110,000, $123,000 and $123,000. Plain white paint was standard and colours added $995; metallic added $1360 and two-tone added $1680.
Steel wheels were standard and aluminium options ranged from $1165 to $3130.
Quartermaster accessories included a cargo tray frame with waterproof canvas canopy, or lockable roller tonneau cover. A roof rack increased carrying capacity and could be fitted with mounts to carry jerry cans, sand ladders and shovels.
As in the case of the Grenadier station wagon we’re holding out zero hope for a test vehicle. Ineos claimed that all its early arrivals Down Under had gone to customers.
