DESTINATIONS - TAG-ALONG TOURS & TOUR OPERATORS

KOOKABURRA TAGALONG TOURS
Not-so-rushed tours to Australia's interesting and remote places.

Kookaburra Tagalong Tours is a family-owned, Queensland-based tour business, which has achieved certification at the Nature Tourism level.

A common complaint we hear from our website visitors is that the itineraries of tag-along tour operators are too tight, so that they feel rushed and tired at the end of the tours. Kookaburra Tagalong’s principals and staff are middle-aged, so their target speed is much more leisurely than most.

With a passion for 4WD and camping, Kookaburra Tagalong Tours are eager to take travellers off the beaten path to locations they wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

Kookaburra Tagalong Tours has itineraries for tours in Queensland, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and South Australia through some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes in the country.

Each tour is packed full of thrills for the experienced 4WDer and newer outback drivers alike, with support from guides to help along the way.

The tours are focussed on treading lightly, aiming to take measures to reduce their carbon footprint and connecting with local Indigenous communities, for a responsible and authentic tourism experience.

Arnhem Land 2022

If you’re one for a more exclusive adventure, Kookaburra Tagalong Tours’  Arnhem Land Adventure Tour gives travellers access to areas that are off-limits to the average 4WDer, because travel permits are notoriously difficult to negotiate.

Starting in Mataranka, this tour takes visitors on the scenic route to the Northern Territory’s coast and back down to Katherine.

Travellers have plenty of opportunities to explore local communities, camp by stunning beaches, go fishing, go on hikes and take part in cultural experiences along the way.

This tour is undoubtedly the best way to see the Northern Territory’s stunning landscapes.

The 2022 itinerary heads east from Mataranka and strike the coast in the spectacular Blue Mud Bay, south of Nhulunbuy. The next stop is at Macassan Beach, before the run up to Nhulunbuy.

After three nights at Melville Bay the next stop is at the Cato River, before   an overnight at the Mainora River and an opportunity to restock in Katherine, before heading towards Kakadu.

The next two-day destination is the Coburg Peninsula, followed by a return to Katherine.

The dates for two tag-alongs in 2022 are 28 May – 16 June and 25 June – 17 July. At this stage of planning, Keryn and Allan Whiting from Outback Travel Australia will be joining the June-July trip and are happy to share their many years of bush travel experience with tour members.

The ANZAC Outback Pubs Experience is a 10-day journey that splits its time between Queensland and New South Wales, taking travellers to at least 25 unique outback pubs. It’s a great way too met the locals and see what makes outback towns tick.

This experience gives travellers a chance to get to know people in their hometowns, inquire into the local history and includes a poignant ANZAC Day Service in the Opal Fields.

The 12-day Hay River and Central Australia Scenic Tracks tour begins in Birdsville and takes travellers across the stunning Simpson Desert. If camping under the stars and sand dune driving sounds like where you’d rather be, this tour is bound to be on your travel list.

The Flinders Ranges and Outback South Australia 4WD tour, spanning 13 days, is a great chance to develop your 4WD skills with guidance from Kookaburra Tagalong Tours’ expert guides.

Starting in the historic town, Quorn, travellers spend five days admiring the vast and dramatic scenery that is the Flinders Ranges.

The Crossing the Madigan Line tour takes travellers on an 11-day historical exploration of the route taken by Dr Cecil Madigan, who led his party of nine men and 19 camels across the northern part of the Simpson Desert in 1939.

Travellers have the chance to retrace history, interspersed with wildlife sightings, driving under brilliant desert skies and seeing first-hand the stunning landscapes along the way.

Kookaburra Tagalong Tours is set to stun travellers with its immersive 4WD tours and Ecotourism Australia is excited to welcome them as a Nature Tourism certified member.
