Waterless, sealed-bag toilet system

The world’s first mobile, water-free toilet with welded-shut sanitary bags was introduced to Australia in 2025 by exclusive national distributor, Clesana Australia.

“This proved European portable toilet re-invents hygiene, comfort and environmental sustainability in the one product,” said Clesana Australia Director, Sebastian Langton.

“It wipes out so many of the odour, waste handling…and environmental and health issues that come with many types of cassette, chemical, composting and ‘dry fluid’ toilets, where waste does not seal properly.”

The Clesana system used heat-sealing of the waste collection bags, removing any need to handle human waste.

“The pongs and waste that go in the bag, stay in the bag and nothing needs to be manually sorted, scraped, or handled,” said Mr Langton. The waste bags come in  rolls of 100.

Pressing the big button on the Clesana toilet initiated heat sealing of the contents of the bag. Small waste amounts could be left until there was enough in the bag to seal, but Big Jobs could be sealed immediately.

Liner foil in the bags ensured that the sealed bags contained not only the waste, but also germs, bacteria and viruses. The sealed bags drop into a bottom drawer (poor pun) fro easy disposal.

The sealed bags could be treated in the same way as bagged household and general waste, and disposed of in conventional rubbish bins.

Clesana’s distribution in Australia was backed by the engineering, technical and distribution facilities of the Vanable Group, in an established 2500 sq m plant in Waterloo, Sydney.
