According to The Land, the NSW Government has purchased the 121,390-hectare Avenel/Mt Westwood Station, north of Broken Hill. The combined properties were once part of Sir Sydney Kidman’s Corona Station.

This is the second-largest purchase by the National Parks and Wildlife Service in the State’s history.

The announcement follows last June’s 60,000-hectare purchase of Langidoon and Metford Stations, to the east of Broken Hill.

The NSW NPWS said: “Avenel is set to become an exciting new visitor destination, with campgrounds, 4WD circuits and walking trails.

“It’s expected to be open to the public in mid-2022.”
