CAMPING - CAMPER TRAILERS
The Patriot X1 camper combines a galvanised steel chassis with aluminium body panels and a roof-top tent, for a dry weight from 700kg, making it one of the lightest campers in the marketplace.
We love the design of the Patriot X1, because it reprises the original camper trailer concept – a load-carrying box with a tent on top that can follow a short wheelbase 4WD virtually anywhere – while incorporating state of the art construction.
The chassis is formed from laser cut, interlocked and hot-dip galvanised steel and the bodywork is laser-cut, rivetted and seam-welded aluminium sheet.
Suspension is by coil-sprung trailing arms – air springs optional – with twin dampers each side. Because the chassis and drawbar are continuous, ground clearance is unbeatable.
The standard accommodation is a Hannibal Safari 1.4-metre tent, but 1.8-metre and two-metre models are optional. Yet another roof-top sleeping option is a fibreglass pop-top pod. A second tent bedroom is a zip-on option.
The standard equipment list is comprehensive: large storage box, electric 10-inch brakes, gas hot water system, 70-litre water tank, stainless steel L-shaped kitchen with fridge slide and bench, twin-burner gas stove, wrap-around awning, wet storage boxes, cargo rack, LPG bottle holder, LED lighting and Redarc BMS charging system with 120A/h battery.
Options include fridge, extended drawbar, additional LPG bottle holder, swing-away spare wheel carrier, twin rear roller drawers, aluminium wheels, air suspension kit with electric compressor, 120W folding solar panel, floor mats, additional battery, stereo system and a full tent wall kit.
Pricing in early 2014 was $29,990 for the standard X1 and $32,990 for the family package unit, with 1.8-metre tent, second bedroom and twin roller drawers.
