CAMPING - CAMPER TRAILERS
Australia’s number one caravan and RV manufacturer with over 43 years’ experience, Jayco, has launched its inaugural tent-trailer range: JTrak.
The quick and easy set-up of the JTrak is its claimed key feature, along with an inflatable annex option, which is exclusive to Jayco.
JTrak is also the first Jayco product to showcase the new generation Jayco chassis with JTech 2.0 lightweight trailing-arm suspension.
Jayco said the JTrak has undergone rigorous testing as part of the Jayco Testing Program. This included laboratory testing and days of real-life testing at the same facility where major automotive and truck manufacturers, and suppliers to the Australian Defence Force test their vehicles.
Four JTrak models are available and each can sleep up to four people. There is a (1940 x 1940) double bed and a dinette area convertible into a second
bed for two kids (1600 x 1600).
The Australian made, 10-ounce JTrak tent comes with window awnings and a fully openable partition on the dinette section.
A slide-out kitchen has a three-burner cooktop with flame-failure device, stainless steel sink, storage space, removable shelf and LED light. There are two bayonet fittings for gas bottle connection and a 12V socket.
“Unlike many competitive products available in Australia, the forward-folding JTrak is designed and made right here in Australia, and we hope that is something Aussies are equally as proud of as Jayco is to deliver to them,” said Jayco CEO, Garry Moore.
Pricing starts at $17,990 for the Touring dole and ranges up to $23,990 for the Outback X.
Like all forward-fold camper trailers, tow ball weights are very high, so you’d need to do your sums before buying one. Most crew cab utes and wagons would need to be very lightly loaded for rear axle weights to remain legal, especially if there’s any freight in the large forward bins on these campers.
Claimed empty weights are: JTrak Touring, 950kg, with tow ball weight of 105kg (softroader suitable); JTrak Touring X, 1015kg with tow ball weight of 130kg; JTrak Outback, 1200kg, with tow ball weight of 170kg and the range-topping JTrak Outback X, 1400kg, with tow ball weight of 170kg.
We’ve requested a test unit, but they won’t give us one until 2019!
