BUYERS GUIDE - SOFT-ROADERS
The production GV80 realises the vision of the GV80 Concept first shown at the 2017 New York auto show. The interior and exterior styling of GV80 was a collaboration between Genesis design studios located in South Korea, the United States and Germany.
Signature Genesis design elements are immediately visible on the GV80 that has bodywork formed from hot-stamped, high-strength steel, as well as lightweight aluminium used for the door, hood, and tailgate pressings, to reduce kerb weight.
A 370mm, split-screen infotainment display sits front and centre on the dashboard and the number of hard buttons and switches was intentionally kept to a minimum. Soft materials cover every surface, from the inside of the door handles to quilted knee pads on the lower sides of the console.
Augmented reality navigation utilises virtual driving guidelines over actual driving images to help drivers recognise roads. Video taken by the front-mounted camera is displayed on the infotainment screen and the optimal driving path is displayed in a virtual graphic.
Road-Noise Active Noise Control (RANC) ‘anti-noise’ technology generates sound waves in opposite phases by analysing road noise in real time, reducing irregular, simultaneous road noise.
An active motion driver’s seat that contains seven air cells is designed to reduce fatigue from long hours of driving. One-touch comfort control, adjustable from the front row, allows for limousine-level relaxation in the second-row seats. Heated and ventilated seats are available in the first two rows.
In addition, the GV80 is equipped with an air purification system that automatically operates according to indoor air quality, through an in-vehicle fine dust sensor. Active air purification with dual filters monitors the in-vehicle air quality in real time, and removes 99 percent of fine particulate matter.
The GV80 is based on a rear-wheel-drive platform, with all-wheel drive optional. GV80 launched in South Korea with a Genesis-exclusive, 204kW/588Nm 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine. Two turbocharged petrol engines will join the lineup before the Australian market launch in mid-2020.
GV80 models equipped with all-wheel drive feature Multi-Terrain Control, with sand, mud and snow modes and an electronically controlled limited slip rear differential.
Electronically controlled suspension has ‘road preview’, recognising information on the road ahead in advance through front cameras and navigation information.
The GV80 features Smart Cruise Control with Machine Learning (SCC-ML); Highway Driving Assist II (HDA II); Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA); Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCAA); Rear Cross-traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) and Driver Attention Alert Warning (DAW).
GV80 is fitted with 10 airbags, including a centre-mounted airbag between the front occupants to mitigate interior impact.
Real time Remote diagnosis provides quick and accurate identification of vehicle issues through analysis of vehicle data, without the need for a service visit. Smartphone-enabled technology also allows GV80 drivers to remotely check on their vehicles and its surroundings.
More detailed information will be provided closer to the Australian launch.
