Tim Bowden’s ‘Penelope’ Audio Books
Penelope Speaks… four audio books have been published on the travels of Tim and Ros Bowden in Outback Australia.
Outback travel has been the passion of Tim and Ros Bowden ever since they headed off in their split-screen Kombi in 1974 for seven months on the road, accompanied by their 16-month-old son Barnaby, who by the time they came back, had spent a third of his life as a very junior nomad.
But it wasn’t until Tim’s retirement from the ABC that they were free to become dedicated Grey Nomads, and from 1998 to 2008 wrote four books based on their roamings in their Series 80 Landcruiser ‘Penelope’, and their off-road Jayco Flight camper ‘The Manor’. (It must be admitted that their trusty Kombi was nicknamed ‘Gertie’ for reasons now forgotten.)
Penelope and The Manor roamed widely in that time, taking in Queensland, the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia as well as Tim’s native Tasmania.
Now, Penelope Goes West – On the road from Sydney to Margaret River and back, Penelope Bungles to Broome, The Devil in Tim – Penelope’s travels in Tasmania, and Down Under in the Top End – Penelope Heads North, have recently all been published as audio books.
