Tata to buy Iveco’s commercial vehicle business
In late July, 2025, Tata Motors and Iveco Group announced an agreement to create a commercial vehicles group that will be wholly owned by Tata Motors.

Of interest to Australian 4WD users are the facts that Tata owns the Range Rover and Land Rover brands, while Iveco produces the Daily and Eurocargo 4×4 truck models.
Tata had two attempts at marketing its own-brand, Indian-made 4WD Xenon utes in Australia, but market acceptance was poor and the effort was curtailed in 2017. You can check out our 2013 evaluation.
Obviously, Tata saw much more market potential in the Rover brands it owned and concentrated on the luxury end of the Australian 4WD scene.

As for Iveco; the brand has been called the ‘poor man’ of the European heavy vehicle manufacturing scene, competing with giant multi brands – Daimler AG, Traton and Volvo – and has been on the unofficial market for several years.
The purchase of Iveco greatly expands Tata’s commercial vehicle footprint, from its current range of Tata trucks and buses in India and its Daewoo truck brand in SEA. Iveco is prominent in Europe and South America, as well as in Australia.
It’s unlikely there’ll be any short-term changes to the Rover and Iveco product ranges in Australia as a result of the takeover.
