GWMs defeat a famous hill

The Springs 4×4 Adventure Park in Queensland is home to ‘Beer O’Clock Hill’, which is a brutal 100-metre shale ascent, featuring three separate rock steps and a punishing rock ledge near the summit.

OTA drove this hill years ago in a double-diff-locked ‘Cruiser and found it very challenging indeed, although not in the class of Wirraba Ridge – few were!

In May 2025, GWM took its newly recently released Cannon Alpha PHEV, Cannon XSR Diesel and Tank 300 Diesel to the summit, with the only claimed changes to the standard specification of all three being off-road oriented tyres.

Anyone who doubts the capability of Chinese-made 4WDs needs to take notice. Out testing at OTA has found them to be very capable on and off road, and serious competitors to established brands.
