Ford Ranger and Everest models powered by the Ford Lion V6 diesel are subject to a recall, to replace the left-side camshaft drive sprocket that may fail without warning, because of a manufacturing fault.

The recall affects 13,490 Fords, produced between 2022 and 2025. It’s the latest in a list of issues that Ford, Peugeot, Jaguar and Land Rover have experienced with an engine series that was derived from the Ford-Peugeot 2.7-litre V6, used in several Peugeot and Citroen cars and in Jaguar and Land Rover Discovery 3 models and in the Ford Territory.

The 2.7-litre and early three-litre V6s were prone to oil starvation, spun bearings and crankshaft failures, said to have been remedied by successive new oil pump designs.

This latest issue seems unrelated and is said to involve a possible camshaft drive sprocket failure. That’s going to be messy and total engine failure is the obvious result.
