Nissan’s seventh-generation Patrol was unveiled by Makoto Uchida, president and CEO of Nissan Motor Co, Ltd, in Abu Dhabi in September 2024. It’s not expected Down under until 2026.

We’d like to be excited about a new Patrol, but it’s pretty much a continuation of the past, unfortunately. The petrol-only powertrain features an expected 320kW/700Nm twin-turbo V6 that replaces the outgoing V8, but the rest of the mechanical specification is predictable: nine-speed auto box and optional adaptive air suspension.

However, one initiative we like is a sump-scavenging oil pump that ensures consistent lubrication on slopes and inclines.

There was no mention of any electrification – hybrid or BEV – for the petrol-happy Middle East markets.

Most of the press release blurb focussed on the Patrol’s electronic driving aids and infotainment systems: NissanConnect 2.0 with Google built-in; ProPILOT (adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance); optional Klipsch Premium Audio System; Double C-shaped headlights featuring optional Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) technology; Puddle Lamps and paddle shifters. 

Additional safety features include Smart Rear View Mirror and Rear Zoom View; Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Predictive Forward Collision Warning and Rear Automatic Emergency Braking.

The front seats feature massage functionality and eight-way adjustment, and the first and second-row seats are equipped with NASA-inspired spinal support technology.

The interior is dominated by a 28.6-inch horizontal Monolith display, featuring twin 14.3-inch displays that provide a comprehensive view of navigation, entertainment and vehicle information, with intuitive transitions via touchscreen. Rear-seat passengers have dual 12.8-inch screens, featuring Miracast, HDMI and USB connections.

The All-New Patrol also offers USB Type-C ports in every row as well as a wireless phone charger pad in the front centre console.

Biometric Cooling is an optional system that uses a built-in infrared sensor to detect the body temperature of front and second-row passengers, and automatically adjusts airflow settings.

EZ flex seats facilitate easier access to the third row without removing a child seated there’s an optional third-row power fold and return function.

The new Patrol has a much needed 30-percent increase in cargo space.

The Patrol has a 3D Around View Monitor, giving a 360-degree view of the vehicle’s surroundings. Panorama View camera technology features ‘Ultra-Wide View’ and ‘Invisible Hood View’, for navigation in situations where visibility is restricted.

An updated power tailgate features hands-free opening, anti-pinch technology and angle memory.
