VW-Jayco Kampervan

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles collaborated with recreational vehicle manufacturer Jayco to create the Crafter Kampervan lifestyle vehicle. Upgrades were incorporated in mid-2025.

This 2022 collaboration between Volkswagen’s Australian Commercial Vehicle arm and a local builder let VW’s Crafter van join the Caddy California and Multivan California as dealer-available campervans.

Volkswagen is the only manufacturer to offer this range via its dealer network, complete with a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty.

The Volkswagen Kampervan was available in three grades from July 2022: Kampervan; Kampervan Style and Kampervan All-Terrain, complete with Seikel off-road equipment. The full-spec Kampervan, with Seikel raised suspension was around the $150 grand mark.

The upgraded MY2025 Crafter Kampervan models were Style TDI410 eight Speed Auto 4Motion, $168,990 and All-Terrain TDI410 8 Speed Auto 4Motion, $176,990.

At 6.8 metres long and two metres wide, the Crafter Kampervan comes with: 4Motion all-wheel-drive; seating for four; sleeping for up to three; multiple dining and seating areas; fresh and waste water tanks; internal bathroom with toilet and shower; kitchen with two-burner gas cooktop, microwave, refrigerator, sink, fresh water, ample storage and bench space; reverse cycle air-conditioning; TV and DVD stereo with internal and external speakers; lithium house battery with solar charging system; diesel heating; hot water system; LED internal and external lighting;  awning; App Connect and WiFi extender.

Since the first announcement, VW/Jayco doubled the Lithium battery capacity to 240 Ah, added an inverter, included outdoor chairs and a table and a small set of portable steps for climbing in through the back door.

The Crafter Kampervan was tested at the Anglesea Proving Ground in Victoria.

The Crafter range received updates in mid-2025, with new technology, safety features and driver assistance systems.

Included as standard were: forward collision warning, with AEB cyclist and pedestrian detection; lane assist; travel assist; blind sport monitoring; adaptive cruise control and a ‘moving off’ information system.

Visually, the Crafter picked up a fresh front bumper and badging, to align with the rest of the Volkswagen family.

On the inside, a redesigned dashboard featured a 10.4-inch infotainment system;  fully digital cockpit; standard wireless charger and USB-C ports with faster charging.

Electric parking brake and transmission shifter replace the previous mechanical units, along with climate control centre design and multi-functional steering wheel.
