4WD MODIFICATIONS - ELECTRIC & LIGHTS
NARVA has developed purpose-built LED globes to provide a super-powerful output for high-beam use only, as well as upgraded high-low-beam LED replacements and new halogen globes.
The new LED high-beam-only globes offer light output of up to 12,000 lumens per pair, with a light beam reaching 300 metres at one lux – performance similar to that of a 14-inch, 5W LED light bar – but without the inconvenience of installing a light bar with wiring, switches and a nudge or ‘roo bar.
This light output is produced in a white 6000K colour temperature and creates up to twice the beam width of standard halogen globes, Narva claims.
With up to 25 times more life than a standard globe, thanks to no filament or moving parts, NARVA says its new high beam LED globes should be a fit-and-forget option for compatible vehicles.
A removable locator ring, external driver and 360-degree adjustable globe orientation (for H7 fitment) allow the globes to be retrofitted at home. NARVA’s High Beam LED globe kit pairs are available in HB3, H7, H8/9/11 fitments.
Drivers can upgrade the halogen globes in their low-beam lights, or replace the standard globes with Narva’s Gen III Performance LED headlight conversion kits, which are said to offer significant upgrades over previous Gen II Performance LED globes.
According to in-house NARVA testing, the latest replacement pair produces up to 70 percent more effective lumens and 30 percent more low beam distance, as well as broader high beam output.
When compared with the standard halogen globes fitted to many vehicles, this represents up to 300 percent brighter output and a light beam that’s 60 metres longer on low beam.
In addition to performance improvements, the Gen III LED globes feature updated circuitry and vibration resistance to make them even more reliable. Compared with halogen globes, owners should expect 30 times longer life.
Gen III globes cost the same as previous Gen II globes and the latest kits are available in H1, H4, HB3, HB4, H7, H8/9/11 and HIR2 fitments.
However, the high-low-beam globes are not ADR approved, so careful adjustment of the beam is necessary, to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers.
ADR-approved halogen upgrades
Narva has released its highest performing halogen headlight globes to date, with the release of the ‘Plus 200’ range, offering 200 percent greater light volume compared with standard halogen globes.
Along with this impressive light volume comes longer beam penetration of up to 80 metres more distance. Another key benefit of Plus 200 performance globes is their quality of light which is 20 percent whiter (3750°K) than standard globes.
Unlike most LED globe upgrades, the Plus 200 range is ADR-approved and totally street legal, providing a safe and efficient upgrade to OEM lighting.
Despite the notable performance benefits, there is no increase in power consumption or heat displacement with Plus 200 performance globes, Narva claims, meaning that they can be used in polycarbonate headlamps.
The new globes are available in two fitment options: 12V H4 (60/55W) and 12V H7 (55W), in single and twin packs.
The new globes can be purchased from leading automotive and 4×4 stockists.
OTA is testing all three types of headlights and will report in August 2022.
